The construction of the Physiotherapy ward in the Neema Hospital has started!

The construction of a  new ward of the Neema Hospital, Physiotherapy, has just started.

This new ward will be fit up with the equipment for rehabilitation of disabled persons and high-qualified professional staff.
This Project of World Friends concerning disability includes also the implementation of the Community Based Rehabilitation Program activities, which include the recruitment and training of health workers and community promoters who work as liaise with Neema Hospital and people in need of assistance, and the extension of the program to the other shanty towns in the area.
By now World Friends is active in Kariobangi and Korogocho, but our aim is to extend the range to Huruma, Babadogo, Kahawa and Soweto too.

Part of the Project, based on community, are the set up of a local gym and the  programming of health education courses aimed to prevent disability and make participants able to handle rehabilitation at home. However, the government hospital of Mbagathi is the reference point for people in need of surgical interventions.
Neema Project includes not only the construction of the Physiotherapy ward and its start, but also a program of professional training, an important support to the families of the disabled and the war against a social stigma, a brand attached to people with disability.
The beneficiaries of this Project are:
•    About 1500 disabled children who take part in the physiotherapy project in the shanty towns
•    About 500 mothers who take part in the courses of physiotherapy included in the rehabilitation project in the shanty towns
•    The health workers recruited and trained in loco
