To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Amici del Mondo World Friends Onlus organized the congress: "Un'altra Africa: 10 anni di World Friends per i diritti e la salute” (Another Africa: ten years of World Friends for rights and health") which was held in Siena (Italy) on 7th october 2011, in "Santa Maria della Scala" (Sala Italo Calvino – Piazza del Duomo, 2).
The conference aimed to show a "different" picture of Africa, far from common stereotypes, rich in resources and full of potentials, and to propose a "different" way of making cooperation projects. "Thinking wtih our head in the south of the world" was the motto of the founders of World Friends: which means, conceiving projects together with the local people, listening to their issues and proposals, and working side by side with them.
Representants ok World Friends staff (Italy and Kenya) attended the conference: among these,
Dr. Washington Njogu, Head of th Neema Hospital,(the hospital built by World Friends in Nairobi to give medical care to the people of the slums), and
Florence Chege, Theatre nurse at the Neema Hospital.
