The campaign “BORN HIV FREE” by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tubercolosis and Malaria has started. It aims to mobilize public support to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2015.
Supported by Carla Bruni Sarkozy, Global Fund Ambassador, the “Born HIV free” will continue until October and it will use social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter.
www.bornhivfree.org is the official web site.
The “Italian network against AIDS”, a net of NGO that fights against HIV/Aids, supports the campaign by its social network (Facebook and Twitter) to update its followers.
Why October?
”Born HIV free” will run until the 3rd funding meeting of the Global Fund in New York in October, in which donors will agree to provide funding for the cycle 2011-2013.
Through this campaign, the countries of the European Union want to show to international donors that their people share and support the Global Fund fight, and that they agree with their governments when they are deeply involved in the cause.
Since the Global Fund was founded in 2002, it has been the main system to provide funding to large-scale prevention, treatment and care programs against the three diseases in 144 countries.
To date, 2.8 million people are receiving antiretroviral treatment, 120 million HIV counseling and testing sessions have been conducted, 4.5 million basic care and support services have been provided to orphans and vulnerable children, 930,000 HIV-positive pregnant women have received PMTCT treatment (Prevention from Mother to Child Transmission).
The “Italian network against AIDS” is made of a group of NGOs working in the less developed countries and involved every day in the fight against HIV/AIDS. For this reasno, the network can monitor and check the results directly on the field.
The network includes the following organisations:
ACRA, ActionAid, AIDOS, AMREF, Ass. Papa Giovanni XXII, CCM, CeLIM MI, CESTAS, CESVI, COOPI, COSPE, COSV, GVC, Intervita Onlus, ISCOS-CISL, Medici con l’Africa CUAMM, Medicus Mundi Italia, Progetto Sviluppo, Ricerca&Cooperazione, World Friends.
