The construction of a  new ward of the Neema Hospital, Physiotherapy, has just started.

This new ward will be fit up with the equipment for rehabilitation of disabled persons and high-qualified professional staff.
This Project of World Friends concerning disability includes also the implementation of the Community Based Rehabilitation Program activities, which include the recruitment and training of health workers and community promoters who work as liaise with Neema Hospital and people in need of assistance, and the extension of the program to the other shanty towns in the area.
By now World Friends is active in Kariobangi and Korogocho, but our aim is to extend the range to Huruma, Babadogo, Kahawa and Soweto too.

Part of the Project, based on community, are the set up of a local gym and the  programming of health education courses aimed to prevent disability and make participants able to handle rehabilitation at home. However, the government hospital of Mbagathi is the reference point for people in need of surgical interventions.
Neema Project includes not only the construction of the Physiotherapy ward and its start, but also a program of professional training, an important support to the families of the disabled and the war against a social stigma, a brand attached to people with disability.
The beneficiaries of this Project are:
•    About 1500 disabled children who take part in the physiotherapy project in the shanty towns
•    About 500 mothers who take part in the courses of physiotherapy included in the rehabilitation project in the shanty towns
•    The health workers recruited and trained in loco

Started few weeks after the end of the campaign Nati nel posto giusto (Born in the right place), thanks to the collected funds and to the donations from Associazione Cuore Amico di Brescia and Area Vasta Toscana Sud-est, the construction of the Maternity Ward of the Neema Hospital goes on according to plans.

Some numbers:
-an excavator, 28 tons of stone, 28 tons of sand, 200 tons of cement and 18 thousands of rocks were used to dig the foundations of the building
-World Friends has recruited a clerk of works, Nicholas O. Ouma, who has been updating daily the Association about the progress of the works.
-in order to assure the end of the building as scheduled by World Friends, Nidcon Builders Ltd, whom the contract has been assigned to, had to sign a clause that binds it to end the works by April 2010.

When the construction of the building is over, we'll have to fit the Maternity Ward  up with the appropriate equipment and personnel. For this reason we ask you to go on supporting “Nati nel posto giusto” (Born in the right place): support World Friends and let the children from Nairobi be born in the right place!
